Based in New York City, we undertake residential landscape design projects throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Connecticut, traveling beyond our core service area for select commissions. Virtual landscape design is also available for clients seeking a collaborative remote design experience.
CONSULT
We begin with a site visit to get to know you, your home, and how you want to live outdoors. We’ll discuss your goals, priorities, aesthetic preferences, and anticipated investment while studying the property’s existing conditions and taking initial measurements. This conversation helps us define the project scope and establish a thoughtful foundation for the design.
CONCEPT
We establish the overall direction for the landscape through spatial planning, precedent imagery, and an initial design concept. At this stage, we also provide early budget guidance to help align the project’s ambitions with the anticipated investment.
DESIGN
Once the concept is established, we develop the landscape in detail. Depending on the project scope, this may include spatial plans, planting design, material and finish selections, outdoor lighting, furniture selections, and Design Details for custom elements. We also coordinate with architects, engineers, and specialty consultants where required.
REALIZE
As the project moves into implementation, we can introduce trusted builders and horticultural professionals and assist in coordinating proposals. We review proposals for general alignment with the design and remain available for design clarification, consultation, and periodic site visits as the landscape takes shape. Clients select and contract directly with their chosen builder.

Kat founded Staghorn NYC in 2014 with a belief that outdoor spaces should feel as considered and personal as the homes they accompany. Her work combines strong spatial composition with a naturalistic approach to planting, creating gardens that are refined, resilient, and deeply connected to the people who live with them. Her work has received awards from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers and has been featured in Dwell, ELLE DECOR, Domino, and the 2026 Gestalten book Penthouse Syndrome.
The Cultivation by Staghorn's founder and principal, Kat Aul Cervoni, extends the firms philosophy beyond the design studio, offering seasonal guidance, gardening knowledge, and a more considered way of living with plants.
